The victim, a U.S. citizen, had been in the woods for about 40 days. The woman's husband had hoped that hunger, thirst, and inaccessible terrain would guarantee the elimination of the person he hated.
The incident took place on the premises of Sindhudurg district. It is known that the age of the woman chained to the tree is 50 years old. She has been identified as Lalita Kayi Kumar. The area where the crime took place is quite wooded and is not an easy obstacle for hikers.
The woman was accidentally discovered on July 27, 2024, by a local shepherd who had arranged grazing near the site of the torturous execution. According to Hindustan Times, the unexpected rescuer immediately contacted the authorities and police.
Immediately after her release, the unfortunate woman was hospitalized. Due to exhaustion and jaw clenching psychosis, the victim could not speak but gave details of the incident in writing. The perpetrator turned out to be her husband (a native of Tamil Nadu), who had hoped that "she would die in the forest".
