A girl with severe scoliosis underwent surgery in Moscow. The operation was performed by doctors of the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital - a branch of the N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Institute of Medical Sciences of the Russian Ministry of Health.
As the press service of the medical institution told "Gazeta.Ru", at the time of admission to the hospital, the angle of spinal deformation of the 12-year-old patient was 115 degrees, and the left shoulder was 10 cm lower than the right one. Due to the pathology, the child developed respiratory failure, so it was impossible to postpone the operation.
In addition to scoliosis, the girl had a congenital heart defect, which also made it difficult to perform the operation. However, the doctors made a plan of operation and corrected the curvature of the spine by inserting transpedicular screws into the vertebral bodies from the second thoracic to the third lumbar vertebrae.
The screws were then connected with rods and changed the axis of the spine in three planes.
"The last stage along the metal structure laid bone autograft to ensure its maximum stability in the future," - said the candidate of medical sciences, surgeon of the hospital Andrey Panteleev.
As a result, the girl was rid of rib hump and imbalance of the shoulder girdle, due to which the function of the chest organs improved.
