The Russian government has considered a draft law that prohibits private clinics from performing abortions. Having familiarized itself with the points of the document, the Cabinet of Ministers decided that it needed to be finalized.

As stated in the feedback to the bill, the proposed amendments not only limit the rights of women to health care, as well as quality and affordable medical care, but also private clinics. In addition, the refusal to conduct the procedure by private clinics will increase the burden on the country's budget.

Recall, the initiative, which proposes to prohibit private clinics to conduct abortions, came from the zakzobranchy of the Nizhny Novgorod region. In the explanatory note to the document as an argument was cited the opinion that in private clinics women do not receive the help of lawyers and psychologists before making a decision. In addition, the developers of the document pointed out that clinics do not take responsibility for complications after an abortion.

The law caused a wide public outcry. Despite the fact that the document is still not adopted, in a number of regions private clinics have already started to refuse to provide the service. At the same time, it was claimed that the decision was not made under pressure from the authorities.

We are talking about at least ten Russian subjects, including Mordovia, Tatarstan, Chelyabinsk, Kaliningrad, Kursk regions, and Crimea.

At the same time, the document has both supporters and those who strongly oppose the adoption of such a law. For example, Valentina Matvienko, the speaker of the Council of the Russian Federation, is sure that Russia should not introduce a ban on abortion. In her opinion, this is not the way the state will go, because no bans and pressure will not solve the problem of abortion.

Moreover, during the “Direct Line” combined with the press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin also expressed his attitude to a possible ban on abortions in private clinics. He emphasized that there is no question of any ban.

He noted that in solving demographic problems it is necessary to act very carefully, taking into account the rights of women, as the rights and freedoms of citizens must be respected.
