A new study shows that the feeling of sugar is related to genetics, and each person perceives sweetness differently.
Experts from the Genotek Medical Genetics Center found that 23% of Russians have a genetic mutation that makes them like sweets more.
The researchers analyzed health data of 59,000 Russians aged 18 to 65. Some of them have gene GLUT2 changed: these people are less susceptible to glucose and do not immediately realize that they ate enough sweetness because of the lack of response from the central nervous system, reports Gazeta.ru.
The researchers note that the discovery of this mutation confirms that the perception of sweetness is "woven" into the genetics and it varies from person to person. Some people try to get a better sense of taste through increased consumption of carbohydrate products.
