In Russia, children have been hospitalized more often with acute respiratory viral infections and influenza, and an increase in morbidity has also been noted among adults.
According to Kommersant, the number of children hospitalized with influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in Moscow is now 2.5 times the average of the 2016-2019 epizootic seasons. Since November 14, the number of hospitalizations has reached 400 patients per day, according to the Moscow Health Department.
Other regions of the Russian Federation have seen a similar increase in the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections. This year the rate has almost doubled: more than 3.1 thousand people, 41.2% of whom are children under 14.
In Ekaterinburg, 15.8 thousand cases of acute respiratory viral infections have been discovered in the last two weeks, which is 12.9% more than the long-term average.
In St. Petersburg, an increase in the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections compared with seven days earlier has been noted in children aged 7-14 by 32.4%, which is more than nine thousand cases.
