A 33-year-old Russian woman from Syktyvkar died in Sri Lanka of dengue fever.
Her death was reported in social networks by her husband. He noted that his wife had no previous health complaints, led an active lifestyle and did not drink alcohol.
According to one information, the Russians went to Sri Lanka as tourists, medical insurance Syktyvkar woman did not have, and therefore, having been infected, she was treated on her own.
According to other information, she was working on the island and was treated at a free hospital during her illness due to lack of insurance.
Ivan Melnikov, vice-president of the Russian division of the International Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, told AiF that the level of medicine there is really very low. And the treatment of dengue fever is reduced to taking paracetamol and saline drips to prevent blood clotting. Russian travellers should remember this and a number of other points. Melnikov stressed that if the borders are closed now, Russians will be left on the island with poor medicine and the inability to go home. And the relatives of the dead Russian woman will have to solve a number of problems with transporting the body.
