Health services in China's Zhejiang province, home to about 64.5 million people, have recorded more than one million new cases of coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reports.
Meanwhile, health officials expect that number could rise to two million by Jan. 1, with a decline predicted only before the Lunar New Year on Jan. 22, 2023.
The National Health Commission of China has not published daily statistics on the coronavirus situation since Sunday, as the authorities themselves had previously cancelled compulsory testing for the possible presence of COVID-19.
