Infectious disease physician, Doctor of Medical Science Irina Shestakova spoke about the only way to stop the COVID-19 pandemic. It is necessary the population to be vaccinated.
"It is necessary to vaccinate people in order to defeat coronavirus. Even if the vaccine is 100% effective, then in the case of vaccination, 50% of the population will not be able to win," Irina Shestakova said on the radio station "Moscow Says."
According to her, 75% of the population needs to be vaccinated to defeat coronavirus. Victory will be won even if the effectiveness of the vaccine is 60-70%, Irina Shestakova said.
"Today the possibility of providing the forecast about further development of the COVID-19 pandemic is absent. It depends on what vaccines scientists will release and on what will be the coverage of the population with vaccination," said Irina Shestakova.
The head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova previously said that vaccinating a person does not make him safe from the spread of COVID-19 for others. Most likely, the person who was vaccinated will not become infected himself, but may infect others.
