Infectious-disease scientist Vladimir Chulanov explained the sharp increase in the incidence of COVID among children

The expert named the spread of the delta strain COVID-19 as the reason.

According to Professor Vladimir Chulanov, Chief Out-of-State Specialist in Infectious Diseases of the Russian Ministry of Health, the situation with the incidence of covid among children and adolescents has changed dramatically since 2020. The expert attributed the reason to the spread of the delta strain of coronavirus, which has higher pathogenicity and infectiousness.

Last year, children were mostly ill in a mild form or asymptomatic, but now the situation has changed: children are not just infected, but also bear the disease severely, they are hospitalized many times more often, reports Interfax.

According to the specialist, the data of Ministry of Health on risk groups for COVID-19 are still relevant. These are citizens over 60 years of age and citizens who cannot vaccinate against covid for medical reasons.
