The disease in patients runs in a mild form.
Egypt's Ministry of Health reported the first two cases of infection with the COVID strain "erys" (aka EG-5.2) detected by testing within the country.
"Test results from centers tracking influenza-like illnesses, acute respiratory diseases and pneumonia confirm two positive cases of the COVID-19 EG-5.2 variant," the ministry said.
The patients are already recovering. The illness has been mild.
Last week, infection with the variant of covida "eris" was recorded in South Africa.
Specialists call the strain Eris contagious and even those who have been infected with covid are defenseless against it, but still the symptoms of infection with the new mutation are not as severe as with other variants of coronavirus.
Rospotrebnadzor keeps the situation with the spread of the Eris coronavirus subspecies in Russia under strict control.
