The United States has seen an increase in cases of a deadly disease caused by the fungus Candida auris. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), patients have been reported in half of the states.

Experts warn that the disease is most susceptible to the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Because the disease cannot be treated with traditional antifungal drugs, it leads to the death of the patient in 60% of cases.

Health officials have said that they are particularly concerned about the resistance of the fungus to antifungal drugs.

At the same time, experts note that the reason for the spread of fungal infection was the increased attention to the coronavirus. In an attempt not to miss the covid, doctors paid little attention to identifying Candida auris.
