Ministry of health of Russia allowed using two drugs for treatment of COVID-19

The Russian Ministry of Health has given permission to use two drugs to treat COVID-19. The press service of the department has already confirmed this information.

"The registration certificates of two domestic drugs for the treatment of coronavirus infection have been amended with the generic drug “Favipiravir”. These drugs can be used for outpatient treatment," the press service of the Ministry of Health said.

The department clarified that the drugs could previously be used only in hospitals. The drug Coronavir, produced at the R-Pharm pharmacological company, also appeared on sale in Russian pharmacies. "Favipiravir" was developed in 2014 in Japan, it was used to treat influenza.

A spokesman for Russian President Dmitry Peskov said earlier that the government is not going to introduce a new self-isolation regime due to coronavirus. Over the past day, 5,762 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been identified in Russia.
