Ministry of health officially allows to test COVID-19 vaccine on people over 60

The Russian Ministry of Health has granted permission to conduct trials of COVID-19 vaccine in people over the age of 60. We are talking about the preparation «Sputnik V.»

"The study will involve 110 volunteers who should be over 60 years old. The vaccine will be tested on the basis of the Central Clinical Hospital of the Presidential Administration," the statement said on the official website of the Ministry of Health.

The ministry said that the vaccine trials on pensioners is aimed at "expanding the possibilities of using the drug on older age groups," which are more susceptible to COVID-19 infection. The trials will be conducted in civil society, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The head of the Gamaleya Center, Alexander Ginzburg, said earlier that vaccine trials on pensioners will be completed in mid-2021. At the end of this stage of work, scientists will begin to study the effects of the drug on children.

Alexander Ginzburg also said earlier that COVID-19 provokes the appearance of antibodies to the interferon protein.
