According to the WHO representative, an increase in the number of measles and pertussis cases is observed in Russia and in many countries of the world, including EU countries.
At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, WHO representative in Russia Batyr Berdyklychev said that according to statistics, Russia is in sixth place in Europe in the number of measles cases per million population.
"From the beginning to the end of March this year, 7,256 new cases of measles were recorded in Russia. .... If we consider the period from January to December 2023, the total number of cases reached 12,926. According to statistics from April 2023 to March 2024, Russia ranked third in the number of new cases,” Berdyklychev said.
He also specified that Russia ranks sixth among European countries in terms of the relative number of cases per million population.
Earlier, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova said that the situation with measles in Russia has gradually stabilized, mentioning that outbreaks of the disease were localized and not widespread.
