The issue of intestinal health and its influence on the functioning of the body is increasingly raised in the modern world. However, in the context of an integrative approach to health, it is necessary to consider the role of the cardiovascular system and nervous system.
Elena Solomatina, a nutritionist, PhD, shared information about the Chinese concept of “three brains”:
The first “brain” - the heart - is seen as the emperor;
The second “brain” - brain and nervous system - performs the function of a strategist;
The third “brain” - the gut - is presented as a military commander.
Solomatina noted in a conversation with Radio 1 that the intestine has its own autonomous nervous system, which produces biologically active substances, perceives signals and transmits them to other body systems. The intestinal microbiome contains opportunistic microorganisms that perform specific functions and fulfill their metabolic needs.
Elena Solomatina emphasized that the intestine is not a centralized system with a single mechanism of functioning. It is a complex of interconnected elements interacting with other organs and systems of the body.
“Stress can lead to disruption of these complex interactions,” she concluded.
