Obesity is one of the major health threats in Russia and around the world today. Fatty liver disease may start relatively unnoticed, but over time the symptoms will become increasingly dangerous.
Gastroenterologist Eugenia Melnikova said that non-alcoholic obesity and, in particular, fatty liver disease is an epidemic of the 21st century. Today it is faced by up to one third of the world's population.
Its main cause is the dominance in the diet of high-calorie food and especially various sweets. The insidiousness of this disease is that it may not cause any external symptoms for years.
In a conversation with the publication "Gazeta.Ru", she noted that if it is accidentally not detected during ultrasound, then at some point it will still make itself known. Fatty liver disease manifests itself, in particular, in loss of appetite, chronic fatigue and nausea.
But it can progress to heart pain, vision impairment, vitamin A deficiency, vitamin D deficiency and osteoparosis. Another late symptom can be nosebleeds.
The doctor stated that obesity has become so massive in Russia that it has already become another threat to demographics. Today, more than 60% of people in the country are overweight. In five years, their number has increased by more than 5%.
