According to gastroenterologist Evgenia Zarubina, GI diseases do not always show typical symptoms. Thus, sometimes they masquerade as ARVI or colds, causing a sore throat or fever.
When you have a scratchy throat and pain without other symptoms of colds or acute respiratory infections and acute respiratory viral infections, you should take a closer look at your condition. According to gastroenterologist Evgenia Zarubina, these typical symptoms of respiratory diseases sometimes indicate problems with the gastrointestinal tract.
Zarubina specified that often laryngopharyngeal reflux, in which stomach contents enter the esophagus, can be accompanied by coughing after eating, tonsillitis, a lump in the throat, a feeling of mucus in the throat, difficulty swallowing.
Pain in the thoracic spine can also indicate GI diseases. For example, this symptom is accompanied by a stomach ulcer or duodenal ulcer, acute pancreatitis.
If we talk about the external manifestations of GI pathologies, they are often accompanied by rashes and allergic reactions, Zarubina told Izvestia.
An important point pointed out by the gastroenterologist, the lack of weight gain. Most often such a condition indicates a violation of the absorption of nutrients from food. Therefore, it is worth checking for pathologies of the small intestine, such as celiac disease or Crohn's disease.
“A decrease in hemoglobin and iron levels in the blood may be associated with hidden blood loss from the upper or lower parts of the gastrointestinal tract or a violation of absorption in the small intestine,” - emphasized Zarubina.
Earlier experts warned that dietary supplements cause not only addiction, but also problems with the GI tract. And the nutritionist told what products are completely in vain considered harmful.
