Doctors in Britain spent months trying to diagnose a terminally ill teenager, blaming her heart palpitations on anxiety. By the time they figured it out, her heart was only functioning at 11 percent.
In Britain, a 35-year-old woman nearly died of cardiovascular disease because doctors did not take her complaints about her well-being seriously.
According to the girl, she went to doctors complaining of a rapid pulse and weakness. After examining the woman, experts decided that the cause of her health - feelings of anxiety, writes the New York Post. However, the woman was getting worse and worse. She twice more went to the doctors for help, but each time her condition was written off on anxiety.
Specialists have seen her again only when the girl could not perform routine chores. That's when they found out she had a fatal disease -- dilated cardiomyopathy, which stretched the muscles of her heart chambers and prevented her heart from pumping blood. According to the woman, her heart was only working at 11 percent at the time.
As a result, she had surgery to install a cardioverter-defibrillator and a pacemaker. Now she feels healthy again and does the things she loves.
