IBM to lay off 3,900 employees

According to Bloomberg, the technology giant IBM plans to lay off 3.9 thousand people, that is, the company will leave 1.5% of employees.

Dismissals, as noted by the agency, will mainly affect employees of departments Kyndryl and Watson Health, after the separation of which remained to work at IBM. Reducing such a substantial number of employees will cost the company $300 million.

According to the National Association for Business Economics, about 20 percent of U.S. companies may cut staff at a time of worsening economic conditions. For example, the bank Goldman Sachs has already begun massive layoffs, the credit institution will leave 3.2 thousand people. Microsoft has announced plans to lay off about 10 thousand employees this year, and Alphabet, which owns Google, has announced the reduction of 12 thousand workers due to turmoil in the technology sector.

According to experts, such measures are due to the global economic slowdown and the desire of consumers to reduce their spending on digital products after the COVID-19 pandemic.
