Prices for essential products in Russia triple over inflation

Prices for socially important products rose by 15.6% year-on-year in March. This is almost three times higher than the official inflation rate.

Relevant data are contained in the study, which was authored by experts of the international audit and consulting network FinExpertiz.

According to Lenta.ru with reference to the document, the list of products in question includes 24 items. The list has been approved by the government.

Analysts found that in January and February these products were on average 13.5% and 15.35% more expensive than last year.

At the same time in March, the gap with the overall inflation increased by almost 2.7 times, while in case of food inflation (7.6%) a two-fold difference was registered.

The publication informs that the biggest difficulties are in Penza and Ryazan regions, as well as in North Ossetia, Lipetsk and Voronezh regions.

The situation is similar in Chuvashia, Nizhny Novgorod region, Kabardino-Balkaria, Kaluga region, and the Mari El Republic. Here the prices of socially important foodstuffs rose by 19-21%.

Potatoes rose most of all on the grocery list: by 58.1%, which is ten times higher than the inflation rate. Then there are carrots (48.2%), granulated sugar (47.5%), as well as eggs (32.1%), buckwheat (31.6%) and sunflower oil (26.8%).
