Accounts chamber proposes methods to fight poverty in Russia

The head of the Accounts Chamber, Alexei Kudrin, has suggested methods to tackle poverty in Russia. These methods were worked out after an analysis of the government's measures aimed at fighting poverty.

"In the first six months, we analyzed all government measures in general and calculated where the money was spent, but it did not bring results. In the second half of the year, we developed approaches and a model to achieve the goals you talked about," Alexei Kudrin said during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

During the analysis, families' incomes and deficits in their earnings were taken into account, mathematical modelling was carried out, and the amounts of payments in all social groups were analyzed. The Accounts Chamber's proposals on overcoming poverty have been sent to the government, Alexei Kudrin added.

"The project was presented to Tatiana Golikova and the Labour Ministry, where they expressed interest. Some of our approaches are already being analyzed," Alexei Kudrin said.

Nikolai Kolomeitsev, a State Duma deputy from the Communist Party, noted in mid-March that the poverty rate in Russia reaches 40%. He did not provide any evidence for his words.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, said that the fight against poverty is a key priority.
