In the Russian Federation, coffee prices are expected to rise significantly in the near future.
"According to market players, the retail price of coffee will increase by 20-30%. At the same time, the maximum percentage is expected for cheap varieties, prices for the lowest positions may soar by 40%," the Izvestia newspaper says.
According to analysts, the reason for this is the problems encountered by the main exporters. Brazil has recorded a record crop failure due to cold and drought conditions. In Colombia, part of the crops were destroyed by rains, and Ethiopia was on the verge of a civil war. At the same time, in all states, difficulties arose with the workforce due to the covid pandemic.
Among the factors that affect prices, the crisis in logistics is also named. There is not enough transport capacity in the world, the price of fuel is increasing, and the demand for goods only complicates the situation.
According to various experts, the above problems promise both a rise in price and a deterioration in the quality of the drink.
“Already in the fall, there were fears that due to the high cost and problems with supplies, manufacturers instead of Arabica would sell cheaper and less tasty Robusta,” Izvestia notes.
