Over the past month, everyone in Russia has been talking about egg prices. "Egg fever" has gripped almost everyone: people are taking pictures of price tags in stores, supervisory authorities are threatening producers and sellers with inspections, and experts are trying to predict the situation. Even the President asks the Minister of Agriculture how things are going with eggs and specifies that Russians are "somehow not so good" with them.

Finally, the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture have taken up the task of solving the problem. Decisions were made on preferential loans to domestic producers and on the abolition of import duties on imported eggs.

Marketing expert, head of the agency, co-owner of the production Anton Polilov in an interview with RIAMO told when to expect the economic effect of the measures taken.

According to the expert, it is possible to import eggs into Russia quite quickly - within a couple of weeks, the only question is in volumes and logistics. In the short term it will help to bring down prices, but a long-term supply strategy is needed, otherwise all the savings will be nullified by additional transportation costs for one-time delivery.

It is all the more senseless to do it before the New Year, when logistics services are more expensive. So, according to Polilov, it is not worth waiting for price stabilization until February next year.

At the same time, according to the expert, there is a danger that imports on special terms in the long term may have negative consequences for domestic egg producers. Poultry farms will not withstand competition and either go bankrupt or reorient from egg-bearing breeds of hens to broiler breeds.
