Russia has become the main supplier of steel and iron to the European Union. Purchases in May reached the highest since June 2022.
Russia increased the supply of these metals in May to 373.1 million euros. This is 29% more than in April and 1.2% more than in 2023. The EU mainly bought semifinished products of unalloyed steel and iron (175 million euros), ferroalloys (81 million euros), RIA “Novosti” wrote with reference to European statistics.
The main buyer of metals from Russia was Italy. It increased imports to 120 million euros (1.6 times). Exports to the Netherlands grew the most - up to 78.5 million euros, 7.3 times.
In second place in terms of steel and iron supplies to the EU is South Korea. The country increased exports to 366.4 million euros (by 30%). India is in third place. Deliveries from there on the contrary decreased to 353.8 million euros.
