Honey production may decrease in Russia. This was reported in the Union of Beekeepers.
The volume of honey production is negatively affected by several factors: a 20-25% decrease in the bee population after a hard winter, the death of honey-bearing plants due to sudden frosts, and a drop in the profitability of the beekeeping business.
Alexander Kuksa, president of the Interregional Union of Beekeepers, explained to Kommersant that the early thaw caused bees to come out of hibernation early, and the subsequent cold weather led to their death.
It is predicted that the decline in honey production in the country may become a long-term trend. At the same time, consumer demand for it will increase.
Ntech analysis shows that honey sales last year increased by 9% in volume terms and 12% in monetary terms.
At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture disagreed with the data on the decline of bee families and expressed confidence that there will be no decline in honey production in 2025.
