Amid ruble rate hike, CBR to raise key rate from 7.5 to 8%

At a meeting to be held on July 21, the Central Bank's Board of Directors will decide whether to raise the key rate.

The majority of experts, 23 out of 30 interviewed representatives of Russian banks, management and investment companies, forecast a rate hike by 50 bp, to 8% per annum. However, three interviewed experts believe that the increase will be less significant - by 25 bp, to 7.75%.

There is also a group of survey participants who expect more decisive actions of the Central Bank and predict a rate hike by 100 bp, to 8.5%. In addition, there is a small probability of a scenario with an increase by 150 b.p., up to 9% per annum. At the same time, the interviewed experts do not rule out that the Central Bank may leave the key rate unchanged.
