Petrobras, Brazil's largest oil and gas company, announced that it will invest about $159 million to restart operations at the Araucaria Nitrogenados SA fertilizer plant located in the state of Paraná. The plant was mothballed in 2020, but its restart was approved by the company's board of directors in June 2024.
Production at the facility is expected to begin in the second half of 2025.
The decision to restore ANSA's operations was based on studies that confirmed the technical and economic feasibility of the project. The move is in line with Petrobras' strategic directions approved last year, under which fertilizer production once again becomes part of the company's investment portfolio. Contracts for the supply of the necessary materials and services are currently underway. Once these are finalized, maintenance of the plant's equipment will begin.
Petrobras is the largest oil and gas company in Brazil, founded in 1953. It is engaged in the production, refining and marketing of crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products. Petrobras is controlled by the state, but is a public company with shares traded on stock exchanges.
Earlier, Sovcombank's net profit for the first half of 2024 fell by 25%. And in 2026 VTB plans to integrate Pochta Bank into its structure.
