The European Commission (EC) plans to abandon the introduction of a price ceiling on Russian gas. This was reported by the Guardian, citing a draft of the relevant document.
"The EU executive body refuses to introduce a price cap on gas from Russia, but promotes the idea of introducing additional taxes on excess profits of energy companies," the publication reads.
As specified, the reason for abandoning the plans to introduce a ceiling on the "blue fuel" purchased from Russia was the unwillingness of a number of countries of the association to support this measure.
We remind that earlier during the summit of June 26-28 the leaders of "G7" expressed their support of the plans to reduce dependence on Russian energy carriers, previously agreeing to start limitations of prices for oil and gas sold by Russia.
In September the intention to introduce a ceiling on "black gold" was confirmed. According to the plans, the price cap will be effective on December 5 for oil and on February 5, 2023 for oil products.
