Economist compares payments to citizens in Russia and US during crisis

In his opinion, there is no need for payments to Russians. In addition, as he stated, the Russian budget is under considerable restrictions compared to the US budget.

It is impossible to make payments to Russians during the crisis because of the huge budget deficit in Russia. Oleg Shibanov, director of Skolkovo financial centre, shared such an opinion on the air of "Govoritmoskva" radio station.

According to Shibanov, one should not rely on American experience in the matter of payments to citizens because the capacity of the Russian budget is much more modest than that of the American one. Generally speaking, the economist added, there is no need for payments because Russia's economy will recover by 4% at the end of this year.

Mr. Shibanov said that the American economy will face difficulties because of the need to introduce new quarantine measures in the pandemic.

We would remind you that the day before US President Joe Biden signed a bill to stimulate the US economy by $1.9 trillion. More than half of this - about a trillion dollars - will go towards direct payments to most citizens.
