In the current season in the EU, it was practically possible to solve the issue related to the passage of the heating season. This was due to the warm weather.
Due to the abnormally warm weather in November and early January, the EU countries managed not only to save gas, but also to keep reserves in their storages, and actually at a record level in history.
According to Kommersant, the cost of gas has returned to last year's levels, dropping to $780 per thousand cubic meters. Apart from weather, the situation was also influenced by increase of wind generation.
The publication also notes that the reduction of supplies from Russia had no effect on the dynamics of European gas prices, as the share of Russian pipeline gas in the EU space at the moment reaches only about four percent.
