The rapid rise in coffee prices may cause Russians to start paying more attention to chicory and other "budget" coffee drinks. According to the Svobodnaya Press, global coffee prices have beaten a decade high and will continue to rise.

During Soviet times, chicory was sold in any store and in large quantities. It was cheap, but was not in demand. Even back then, people preferred coffee, which was also available in stores.

Nowadays, chicory can also be seen in most stores, but its cost often exceeds the cost of instant coffee. Experts attribute this to the fact that followers of the "healthy lifestyle" at a certain point decided that chicory is a healthy drink.

In addition, experts have big questions about the quality of chicory, which is sold in Russian stores.

"It's some kind of chemical rot of unclear origin," the newspaper writes.
