Ottawa allows Canadian companies to trade with Russia to circumvent its own sanctions restrictions. All of this is happening in secret.
An article about the workarounds of Canadian companies was published in Le Devoir. The publication refers to the results of an analysis of federal data on international trade.
The authors of the publication write that despite the formal ban, Russian companies supply a number of goods to Canada. In particular, we are talking about materials for construction, geological exploration, as well as luxury goods.
For its part, Canada exports raw materials and equipment used in the production of weapons, oil and minerals. And, as the article emphasizes, all of this takes place in the strictest secrecy.
"... The Canadian government has granted its companies more than a dozen special permits to circumvent the economic sanctions it itself has imposed on Russia," the publication summarizes.
