Russians warned of rising olive oil prices due to the Spanish drought

Vegetable oils in the world continue to be in short supply, and for this reason they cannot become cheaper. Moreover, according to Sergei Chernikov, associate professor at the Department of Economics of the PFUR, in the near future they may noticeably go up in price.

In a conversation with Prime, the expert stressed that the upward trend in prices is especially relevant for olive oil, the supply of which is at risk of a serious reduction due to the drought in Spain.

As for sunflower oil, in this case the situation is different, at least for Russia. The bottom line is that the country has harvested a good sunflower crop, and this could lead to wholesale prices starting to fall by the end of this year.

But, as Chernikov explains, the retail price may not be affected, as retailers will be looking to make a little money in case of problems with other product groups.

"In general, a similar situation persists with other oils - rapeseed, flax, olives, soybeans and palm oil," summarized the interlocutor of the agency.
