A fresh batch of Hyundai Solaris sedans, which returns to the production lines of St. Petersburg after the winter, is now available in Russia in a new assembly variant. About a hundred of these cars have appeared on the market, with prices starting from 1.9 million rubles.
The most affordable of them, at 1,899,000 rubles, came from Kazakhstan and are currently offered for sale in Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov region. This new round of production comes after the suspension of Hyundai's plant in St. Petersburg, which began operations in January 2011 with an investment of more than a billion dollars and a capacity of 200,000 vehicles per year.
However, in March 2022, production was suspended due to problems with component supply, and by spring 2023, dealers had run out of stock of popular models. In the fall months of the same year, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, announced the plant's plans to attract a local investor.
Auto experts assumed that the plant owner could reach an agreement with Korean partners through China and resume production of familiar models under a new brand. Currently, Hyundai Solaris sedans are produced under the Solaris HS brand, but some dealers and private sellers still bring in the original models with the Hyundai emblem on the body.
These cars are most often imported from Kazakhstan under the name Accent, and their prices start from 1.9 million rubles. For example, in January 2024, prices for such cars started from 2.45 million rubles. The most affordable Solaris are offered for sale in Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov region, at a price of 1,899,000 rubles, and in Perm region their price is 1.969 million rubles.
Technically, all these sedans are identical, equipped with a 1.6-liter engine with 123 horsepower and a classic 6-speed automatic transmission.
