Daimler and Waymo to launch joint autopilot truck program

Machines with a high or full degree of autonomy should be created «in the coming years.»

Daimler and Waymo announced the launch of an ambitious project on joint development of self-driving trucks that can operate with a high or full degree of autonomy in certain conditions.

The first product of their collaboration will be a deep modification of the Freightliner Cascadia truck, which will be equipped with a self-driving hardware and software complex previously developed by Waymo specialists.

The promising novelty does not yet have a clear release date - in their press release, representatives of the two companies limited themselves to the vague wording "in the coming years." However, judging by their tone, it is definitely not worth waiting for a new car before 2022.
