Ford announces recall of 197,000 Mustang Mach-E due to door lock problemsFord has announced the launch of a major recall campaign affecting the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover. The reason for the recall is a potentially dangerous malfunction related to the operation of the door locks. Under certain conditions, passengers could find themselves locked inside the vehicle.
According to data released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall will cover more than 197,000 Ford Mustang Mach-Es manufactured between 2021 and 2025.
The problem is due to the fact that in a number of cars electronic door latches can stop functioning when the battery is completely discharged. In such a situation, it becomes impossible to open the doors using conventional electronic buttons. The only way out is to use emergency mechanical handles located inside the cabin, which, as experts note, not all passengers can quickly find in an emergency situation.
Ford plans to fix the problem free of charge as part of a service campaign. The company emphasizes that Mustang Mach-E owners will be offered to make the necessary upgrades or repairs at official dealerships. The manufacturer also recalled that the emergency mechanical handles remain available to all passengers, but recommended not to delay a service visit to fix the problem.
The recall campaign emphasized the importance of reliable operation of key safety systems in modern electric cars and once again reminded of the need for regular updates and timely maintenance.
