The car with a substantial mileage, exceeding 500,000 kilometers, it is wiser to give up. This opinion was expressed by Roman Timashov, the director of after-sales service «Autodom Altufevo».
Timashov notes that significant wear of the engine and transmission is usually observed after 250 and 150 thousand kilometers respectively. In his opinion, such a resource should provide the main machines without major repair. Proper maintenance and timely repair can extend the service life of these units by about three-quarters of the original. However, after crossing the mark of 500,000 kilometers, the expert advises to dispose of the car, because its further use becomes risky and unpredictable.
He also emphasized that there was a current trend towards the use of cars with increasing mileage. Before the cessation of activities of European, Japanese and Korean car manufacturers in Russia, owners who bought cars from official dealers often changed them after the expiration of the warranty period. The 100,000-km mileage was considered significant and made it difficult to sell the car. Now the car owners continue to operate cars with a mileage of 200-300 thousand kilometers.
«Of course, after a trip of 300,000 km the car needs to be serviced more often in service centers, because even externally problem-free cars can deliver problems at any moment due to the end of the service at one or another node», concluded the expert.
