Ministry of industry and trade adds Skoda and Hyundai to list of vehicles subject to luxury tax

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has expanded the list of vehicles subject to luxury tax. Now the list includes vehicles made by Skoda and Hyundai.

Today, the list of the Ministry of Industry and Trade includes more than 1,300 vehicles over three million rubles. In April 2021, another 12 models will be added to the list, including Skoda and Hyundai.

Since 2014, only luxury cars like Bentley, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Audi and Rolls-Royce have been on the list. After cars doubled in price in Russia, cars like the Nissan Murano, KIA Stinger, Mazda CX-9, Subaru Outback as well as the Honda Pilot and Jeep Wrangler were added to the luxury tax list.

From April 2021, the KIA Mohave, Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Compass will also join the list. Their cost in various configurations exceeds 3 million rubles.

In December 2020, portal "Drom.ru" reported that almost half of Russians want to impose a luxury tax on cars over five million rubles. Another 38% of respondents said that such a tax should be imposed on cars priced over 10 million rubles, and 21% said the tax should be abolished.
