The difference is only 0.1%.
In September this year, Russian cars went up in price more than those imported from abroad, according to Rosstat. Thus, from the end of August to September 11, 2023, prices for domestic passenger cars rose by an average of 0.7 percent, while imported cars imported into the country or assembled at local factories went up by 0.6 percent.
If we consider the period from September 5 to September 11, there is a change in dynamics. Prices for domestic cars increased by 0.1 percent, while foreign cars went up in price by more than 0.4 percent during this week.
Since the beginning of this year, the cost of domestic passenger cars has increased by 7.5 percent, while the prices of foreign cars have jumped by four percent.
One of the factors influencing pricing in Russia was the increase in the rates of the scrappage tax from August 1. This led to an increase in levies on small cars imported into the country; cars under three years old went up 1.7 times in price, which affected final prices.
Overall, for 2023, the cost of new cars in Russia increased by 12 percent, reaching a level of 1.9 million rubles, according to calculations by SberAvto and Chek Index in late August. This is 200,000 rubles more than in the previous year.
