From January to August 2022, the average price of a new car in Russia has reached 2.29 million rubles, reports analytical agency Autostat.

However, if we compare this figure with the same period in 2021, the weighted average price of a car in the country has increased by 22%. And if we compare this figure with 2014, it has soared by 129%, says Sergey Udalov, executive director of Avtostat.

However, at the moment, the expert notes a relative stabilization in the car market. The highest increase in price happened in April of this year, when the Russians rushed to buy up auto remnants from dealers in anticipation of shortages.

Chinese brands and Russia's AvtoVAZ may also have an impact on the weighted average price in the future. The Chinese manufacturer has the ability to raise prices, while the domestic one will be able to apply subsidized programs from the government to reduce the cost of cars.
