Chinese technology can help a lot in this.
Experts at National Credit Ratings (NCR), part of the RBC holding company, admit that a unique window of opportunity has opened up for the Russian automotive industry. It is facing the challenge not only to maintain production volumes and increase its market share through large-scale assembly of Chinese cars, but also to gradually develop its own technologies and create its own models, RBC writes.
It is noted that all new Russian models that appeared in 2022, have Chinese roots, as indicated in the review. For example, the plant "Renault Russia" in Moscow has already started to produce Chinese cars under the brand "Moskvich", using the released production capacity.
In addition, in 2022, the state strategy for the development of the automobile industry until 2035 was adopted. Its main objective is to ensure the technological sovereignty of the automotive industry and the production of competitive products with a minimum level of localization of not less than 80%.
The strategy provides significant investments in research and development and organization of production of components for the automotive industry in the period from 2023 to 2035 amounting to 2.7 trillion rubles.
It should be reminded that earlier the production of new crossovers LADA X-Cross 5, which are a re-tooled Chinese model FAW Bestune T77, was also launched in St. Petersburg.
