Starting July 1, Russian automakers will be able to get domestic anti-lock braking systems (ABS), Vasily Shpak, deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said in an interview with the RIA Novosti news agency.

The first production line for domestic ABS will be launched in Kostroma.

Russia has already achieved import substitution in such areas as electronic control units, harnesses and, partially, sensors for the automotive industry. The deputy minister also noted that it is planned to continue the localization of missing elements of electronic architecture.

As a reminder, in May 2022, the government decided to ease environmental and safety requirements for cars by allowing automakers to produce products without the mandatory equipment of ABS systems, airbags and dynamic stabilization system (ESP).

However, according to the latest government order on June 1, the simplified standards will be in effect only until Feb. 1, 2024. Also, from December 1, 2023, it will be mandatory to equip vehicles with ABS again.
