Experts of the American organization Caresoft Global were unpleasantly struck by the results of disassembly of the Chinese electric car for $12,000.
“Autopsy” showed the superiority of Chinese products in quality and price and a clear lagging behind the American car industry. The five-door model, which costs 85,800 yuan or about $12,000 in China, was subjected to the examination.
Expectations were quite different, the organization said in a release. According to some indicators BYD Seagull left far behind expensive models made in the United States.
Experts appreciated the finish, six airbags for driver and passengers, stabilization system, noise insulation comparable to the level of electric cars of the middle class.
According to the results of reverse engineering BYD Seagull had to be recognized as comparable to “electric cars” three times more expensive. The researchers had to admit that it is impossible to find a similar car for the same money in the United States.
Another advantage is the absence of imported components in the Chinese electric car. All components - engines, electronics, batteries and others are produced domestically.
BYD Seagull is also extremely light - its curb weight is four hundred kilograms lower than that of the Chevrolet Bolt EV.
