The number of ads for sale of cars that were previously used as taxis has increased sharply on the Russian market. Carriers are massively updating their fleets as new requirements come into force.
The number of advertisements for cars previously used in taxis has increased significantly on the Russian market in recent months.
The supply of models popular with taxi companies in recent years has increased especially - these are Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Rapid, released after 2016.
Since April, the number of such offers has increased by about 2.5 times. For example, if in the spring there were about 13.9 thousand Kia Rio cars on sale, then by the beginning of July there were already 36 thousand. Not all of them previously worked as taxis, but the main growth is associated with the mass exit of cars from taxi fleets.
The reason for the increase in supply was the law on the localization of taxi cars, which obliges from March 2026 to use only Russian cars or foreign cars of local assembly. Now, before the law comes into force, companies can still get a five-year permit to operate for any cars, so carriers are actively changing their fleets in order to make it in time for the transition period.
