On Monday morning, June 2, about 1,900 heavy-duty trucks and cars waiting for entry at the borders of Belarus with the European Union, reported in the State Border Committee of the Republic. In front of the only available for passenger cars Polish checkpoint “Terespol” (from the Belarusian side - “Brest”), 880 cars are in line, and their number has increased by 355 units since Friday, May 30.
In the Lithuanian direction, 490 trucks are waiting for departure in front of the border crossing “Šalčininkai” (from the Belarusian side - “Beniakoni”), while the Lithuanian services allowed only 25% of trucks from the established norm over the weekend. The situation is even more tense at another Lithuanian crossing “Miadininkai” (neighboring “Kamenny Log”), where only 5% of trucks from the norm were cleared over the weekend, and currently there are 370 trucks in the queue. A queue of 80 heavy trucks is also recorded in front of the Latvian checkpoint “Paternieki” (from the Belarusian side - “Grigorovshchina”). The main reasons for such congestion in the State Border Committee call the gradual closure of checkpoints on their borders by neighboring EU countries - Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, due to which only five out of 14 crossings are now working. In addition, the situation is aggravated by the irregular reception of transport by the control services of these European countries.
