From December 1, 2023, drivers in Russia will have to install an anti-lock braking system (ABS) on their cars.

Also, violators using non-seasonal tires will be subject to a fine of 500 rubles.

Information about the mandatory installation of anti-lock braking system on cars was tentatively announced from the beginning of November 2023, but the entry of this requirement was postponed to a later date.

Earlier, from September 1, 2023, the list of car defects prohibiting their operation was updated. The traffic police were given the right to stop a vehicle when an antilock braking system (ABS) fault indicator light is illuminated, highlighting this element as an important part of the braking system critical to road safety.
