From October 31 to November 2, the Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation was held in Zurich, Switzerland. For the first time, the event was held under the new president of the organization, Luc Tardif.
One of the issues of the meeting was the participation of the Chinese men's national ice hockey team at the home Games in 2022.
The fact is that China qualified for the Olympics as the host country. However, the country's men's team has not participated in official competitions since 2019 and ranks only 32nd in the world team rankings.
"We are working with the Chinese side to confirm the team's hockey players' status as competitors under the IIHF," Tardif said.
In the group stage, the Chinese will play against Canada, the United States and Germany.
