"In Russia, more than 2.2 million people have been vaccinated against coronavirus with Sputnik V vaccine. Both components of the drug have been given to 1.7 million people," said Denis Logunov, quoted by Interfax.
According to him, the main vaccination programme for the Russian population will be completed by the summer of 2021. By then, it will be possible to achieve a 70 percent immune layer to COVID-19, according to Denis Logunov. It is also not ruled out that the main part of the vaccination programme will be completed by the autumn of this year.
More than seven million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine have already been released into circulation in Russia. By March 2021, the turnover will be 10 million doses from all four sites that produce vaccines, Denis Logunov added.
The British newspaper Express believes that the Sputnik V vaccine has the potential to divide European society. It is connected with the recent decision of the Italian authorities to approve the use of the Russian drug to vaccinate the population.
