Scientists managed to solve the mystery of fresh water in the Hawaiian Islands. Despite the amount of precipitation each year, the size of fresh water bodies in Hawaii was quite modest and posed a problem with the water supply of the islanders. It turned out that the water did not linger in the reservoirs, but flowed down from the outskirts of the Hualalai volcano and gathered in huge underground reservoirs going deep under the ocean floor.
One of these reservoirs was found underground on the coast of Hawaii. The exact volume of the colossal freshwater basin is not yet known, but experts believe that the find can solve the problem of providing water on the island.
In addition, the discovery of scientists will help access fresh water and other volcanic islands, which, given the changing climate, is an invaluable resource for islanders.
