Sargsyan noted that in a country "where such a big tragedy occurs," the government that led to this should leave.
"There is a civilized path - early elections, the creation of an interim government of national unity," the press service quoted Sargsyan as saying.
According to the president, a respected person should stand at the head of the interim government. What is more, this government should work six months or a year before the new elections.
At the same time, according to Sargsyan, a referendum should be held, changing the constitution. According to the head of state, Armenia should have a balance between the parliament, the government and the institution of the president.
"I believe that even if we remain a parliamentary country, the president should be elected by the people. In our country, all posts are appointed by the parliament, and where is the balance?" Sargsyan said.
At the same time, the presence of a crisis in the country cannot be measured by the number of protesters in the square, the president said.
"This is a crisis not of a country or state, but of a nation - human rights, psychological, financial, economic, humanitarian," Sargsyan said.
At the same time, the President of Armenia noted that he has no prime ambitions. In his opinion, it is necessary to rely not on individuals, but on institutions.
"There is no one in the world who can raise the country alone. We must all work together, we should have a program and the support of real friends, primarily Russia," the president concluded.
